Consistency. Similar operations should work the same way across an interface. If clicking a header sorts a table in one view, it should sort a table everywhere. If Ctrl+S saves in one application, it should save in all of them. Consistency reduces learning time because each new pattern transfers to similar situations.
Fitts’s Law
